galleria-logoFORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale and Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. invite friends and supporters to the launch of The Clothesline Project to spread the word to stop abuse for everyone on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. Adults and children can decorate t-shirts and help generate awareness in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the Galleria at Fort Lauderdale near the Macy’s entrance.

“The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale supports Women In Distress and its mission to end domestic violence,” said Melissa Milroy, senior marketing manager at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale. “We are proud to provide this opportunity to raise much needed funds for such a worthy cause.”

Adults and children are invited to decorate a shirt with nonviolent messages, which then will be displayed on a clothesline as testimony to the problem of violence against men, women and children. T-shirts may be purchased for a suggested donation of $5 each, with all proceeds benefiting Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc.

“The Clothesline Project is part of a larger Domestic Violence Awareness Month campaign, spearheaded by Women In Distress. A series of local events and activities are held throughout the month of October to honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence and celebrate those who are survivors. The Clothesline Project is a fun way to get the community involved in a creative project while helping others in need,” said Jennifer DeFerrari, AmeriCorps manager at Women In Distress. “We are committed to help spread a message of hope and support as too many families continue to be affected by domestic violence.”

Women In Distress currently operates a 132 bed shelter, an outreach center (Jim & Jan Moran Family Center) and a thrift store. Women In Distress’ programs and services are divided into Residential Services, Outreach Services, education and prevention.
