Schools with significant increases in the combined reading and math proficiency will share strategies that can be replicated across all schools.

BROWARD-SCHOOLS-logoToday, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) released the 2012-13 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test 2.0 (FCAT 2.0) Writing Assessment results for fourth grade, eighth grade, and tenth grade students today. Summary results for the District are:

• 64% of Grade 4 students scored at 3.5 or higher
• 60% of Grade 8 students scored at 3.5 or higher
• 70% of Grade 10 students scored at 3.5 or higher

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students in grade 4 and 10 demonstrated strong improvements in their writing skills. Grade 8 scores remained stable.

The FDOE also released the 2012-13 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test 2.0 (FCAT 2.0) Reading and Mathematics results for third grade students today. Summary results for the District indicate that:

• 54% of Grade 3 students meet or exceed grade level proficiency (Achievement Level 3 or above) in Reading
• 58% of Grade 3 students meet or exceed grade level proficiency (Achievement Level 3 or above) in Mathematics

Twelve traditional schools made statistically significant increases (indicating a positive trend in scores) in their COMBINED reading AND mathematics proficiency results. The schools are: Beachside Montessori Village Elementary School, Eagle Point Elementary School, Embassy Creek Elementary School, Hallandale Elementary School, Meadowbrook Elementary School, Nova Blanche Foreman Elementary School, Sawgrass Elementary School, Sea Castle Elementary School, Silver Lakes Elementary School, Silver Ridge Elementary School, Sunshine Elementary School, and Welleby Elementary School.

"We are focusing on the activities within our schools that show the greatest improvements in student learning" said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. "Our teachers and school leaders are best positioned to help the District identify best practices that can be replicated across all schools."
