Feeding South Florida™ is inspiring area residents to walk/run miles for meals to end hunger and register for its 6th Annual Outrun Hunger 5K Walk/Run, taking place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, 7 10 a.m. The 5K will kick off at Charnow Park, located at 300 Connecticut Street, Hollywood, FL 33019, and will happen along the acclaimed Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and beach area in Hollywood.
Participants can simply walk or run to make a big difference in the effort to end hunger for 785,040 residents of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties who are food insecure. Funds collected will help Feeding South Florida to achieve its mission: to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through innovative programming and education.
Participants can join the event as an individual or a team. Members of any business or organization, friends and neighbors – anyone can start a team. Medals will be given for the top three places in each age category and overall best times. To register online for the event, visit outrunhunger5k.eventbrite.com.
The warm-up will begin at 7:45 a.m.; the run/walk will start at 8 a.m. Awards will be distributed and a raffle will take place at 9 a.m. From 7–10 a.m., the event will include a marketplace and entertainment.
The race will be professionally timed by Split Second Timing using disposable transponders to ensure accurate scoring and time results. Children can splash in water fountains and enjoy other activities at Charnow Park.
Runners and walkers not only can participate in the race, but also fundraise to help end hunger in South Florida, by creating a custom fundraising Web page. Even those who want to help Feeding South Florida outrun hunger, but don’t want to run or walk, can support the organization as a virtual runner by creating a personalized fundraising page. Registration for the event is $25 per person (equaling 150 meals) until Feb. 12. From Feb. 13–March 11, registration is $30 per person (equaling 180 meals). On the race day, registration is $35 per person (equaling 210 meals). The entry fee includes an official Outrun Hunger 5K T-shirt, gift bag and online time-tracking.
