Members of the South Florida Audubon Society will lead a moonlight birding tour at a special Valentine's Day benefit for Flamingo Gardens on February 14, 2012, between 5 and 7pm.
 
Guests will be treated to scrumptious food and desserts paired with the fine craft beers and honey wines in the romantic setting of the Flamingo Pond. The South Florida Audubon Society will also be hosting tours of the Free-flight Aviary and a Moonlight Birding Tour where guests will learn about mating and nesting habits. The food will be provided by Cafe On the Go and beverages provided by Brown Distributing. The event is also sponsored by Birding Adventures.
 
Flamingo Gardens is celebrating 85 years as one of South Florida's first botanical gardens and tourists attractions. Their Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary gives refuge to permanently injured and non-releasable birds and animals and boasts the largest collection of Florida native birds in the country. In the past 20 years, birds in the Free-flight Aviary have produced over 2000 offspring which have been released into the wild.
 
Doug Young, President of South Florida Audubon Society, encourages the public to "come out and support Flamingo Gardens. The work that Flamingo Gardens does in housing injured birds and releasing the healthy offspring is appreciated not only by our organization but by other wildlife and conservation groups in South Florida. Tickets are $35 for members of Flamingo Gardens and South Florida Audubon Society, and $45 for non-members. All proceeds from the event will benefit Flamingo Gardens. Tickets will sell out so advanced purchase is recommended.
