- Job Creation, Economic Development, Prosperous Communities is focus of Statewide Effort -
Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca has been selected as a cochair of the Six Pillars Strategic Planning Process that has recently launched in Broward County. The Six Pillars process is led by The Florida Chamber Foundation at the state level, and is meant to help communities prosper and create high paying jobs. Six Pillars will be addressing key topics critical to economic success in the future:
(1) Talent Supply & Education
(2) Innovation & Economic Development
(3) Infrastructure & Growth Leadership
(4) Business Climate & Competitiveness
(5) Civic & Governance Systems
(6) Quality of Life & Quality Places
" Each of the Six Pillars topics is important in its own right," said Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca. "When we bring them all together to develop a strategic vision, we will most assuredly impact our future success by creating high wage jobs, a vibrant community prepared for the future and the tools we need in Broward County to compete in an increasing global competitive environment."Commissioner LaMarca joins Six Pillar process co-chairs J. David Armstrong, Jr., president of Broward College and chairman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance; Charles Caulkins, managing partner of the Fort Lauderdale office of Fisher and Phillips LLP and vice chair of The Broward Workshop; Lori Chevy, Broward market president of Bank of America Merrill Lynch and James Murley, executive director of the South Florida Regional Planning Council. Deborah Wilkinson, an Economic Development Specialist with Broward County's Office of Economic and Small Business Development serves on the Florida Chamber Foundation's Six Pillars Caucus System.
To become a Six Pillars Community, a county or region must complete a 10-step process focused around the Six Pillars for Florida's Future framework. As a Six Pillars Community, Broward would join Jackson, Columbia and other counties in contributing to The Florida Scorecard for economic development under the "Six Pillars" concept.
