LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, FL – Construction of two innovative streetscape projects are well underway at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The Town’s plan to revitalize the business district and attract more visitors and residents to its shops and restaurants on Commercial Boulevard includes widening sidewalks and adding lush foliage. The goal is to make strolling through the Town more enjoyable, create beautiful public plazas and provide for additional open-air dining.

Just east of the Commercial Boulevard bridge at the gateway to the Town, motorists will be welcomed by a striking sculpture depicting the marine life that is naturally found just off shore at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea’s snorkel and dive-friendly beach. Retail centers on both sides of the boulevard are being upgraded with wide promenades, public art pieces, sidewalk dining, and improved lighting and landscaping, making a stroll past the shops a pleasant experience.

On East Commercial Boulevard at the beach, Anglin’s Square, already a popular spot for tourists and residents, will become a larger and more beautiful public gathering space with wonderful vistas of the sea. The center median is being removed to provide wider, tree-shaded sidewalks and more outdoor dining.

“Residents and visitors alike love the walkability of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, and these improvements will enhance what visitors like most about us,” said Mayor Roseann Minnet. “We are especially pleased to open up wider views to the beach and ocean, and create what we think will be some of the finest public spaces along the Florida coast.”

In order to facilitate parking during construction, free parking is available in the Town’s A1A lot, just north of Commercial Blvd. on the west side of the road. And, a new 78-space lot was recently opened near the ocean on El Mar Drive and A1A within a block of downtown. Free transportation on the air-conditioned Pelican Hopper is also provided throughout the Town.

Construction of the streetscape projects will be completed before the end of the year. The Town’s businesses remain open during construction, with the beach, shops, restaurants and the pier all accessible.
