FORT LAUDERDALE – In celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month in June, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts will host ICABA® Salutes South Florida's 100 Most Accomplished Caribbean Americans on Friday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater as a part of the Arts Access program.
ICABA®, which stands for Identify, Connect, Activate the Black Accomplished, is dedicated to recognizing accomplished black professionals, community leaders and entrepreneurs in its publications and connects them through its social network, icabaworld.com, and at its signature events.
Honorees on June 29 are South Florida residents of Caribbean descent who have made a difference professionally and in the community as academics and educators, community and spiritual leaders, executives and entrepreneurs, civic leaders, legal and health care leaders, rising stars and those who work in sports, the media, arts and entertainment.
The award selection committee consists of event co-chairs: Miguel Southwell, the deputy director of business retention at Miami-Dade Aviation Department; Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, the president and CEO of the Urban League of Broward County; Carlton "Ricky" Wade, an entrepreneur/civic leader; and the steering committee, which is comprised of more than 30 South Florida business, civic, elected and appointed officials. The honorees will be featured in The Salute, a full-color, coffee-table quality publication that features a foreword by attorney and civic leader Marlon Hill, Esq.
The Broward Center’s Arts Access program assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences. Arts Access has collaborated with nearly 50 performing arts companies, nonprofit organizations and cultural and community groups to present all genres of the performing arts including music, dance, theater, poetry and comedy.
Tickets are $100 for ICABA members (membership is free and open to the public), $125 for non-members and are available through June 27th at icabaworld.com. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District at 201 SW Fifth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
