One hundred-fourteen Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) pre-school through adult education students with disabilities will be honored for their accomplishments at an awards event in their honor on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 9 a.m. at Atlantic Technical Center, Arthur Ashe Campus, 1701 NW 23rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The students’ families, school staffs and special guests, including Broward Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie and School Board members, will attend the special awards ceremony.

The event, presented by the District’s Exceptional Student Education & Support Services Department, is the culminating activity of the annual “Just Do It...I Did!” campaign, which celebrates the exemplary achievements of students with disabilities. Created in 1999, the campaign is held in conjunction with a national awareness campaign and the Disability History and Awareness Weeks. The students are nominated by their schools to be recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Five students are “Recognized Recipients” in their grade level for earning the highest scores by the principal judges. They include:

Pre-school: Aiden LaSure, Westchester Elementary School; Teacher, Terri Shepard
Elementary School: John Soliz, Stirling Elementary School; Teacher, Debbie Schwartz     
Middle School: Bruno Lin, Tequesta Trace Middle School, Teacher, Jessica Winter
High School: Nicolas Camire, Monarch High School, Teacher, Christine Lamb
Adult Education:  Jaimee Maurice, Wingate Oaks Center, Teacher, Ruthanne Newell
