BROWARD COUNTY – ChildNet, Broward County’s Community-Based Care lead agency responsible for administration of the local child welfare system, will host Broward County’s Inaugural ChildNet Care for Kids Luncheon on Friday, May 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pier Top Lounge - Hyatt Pier Sixty Six, 2301 SE 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $75.
Presented by premier law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, the luncheon will honor Lorraine Thomas, widow of Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s restaurants. Dave was adopted as a baby and committed his philanthropic life to advocating and supporting adoption issues. They have both been longtime advocates for children in foster care.
The Care for Kids Luncheon supports activities and items needed by the more than 3,000 children in Broward’s child welfare system. The fundraiser’s theme is Making Dreams Come True highlighting that wishes of children in foster care.
“The funds we raise at the Care for Kids luncheon will help countless children enjoy participating in sports teams and field trips alongside their classmates,” said Emilio Benitez, president and chief executive officer at ChildNet. “It’s the activities, the dance lessons, the uniforms and the extracurricular programs that will help these children that have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect and abandonment, enjoy all the happy memories that come with just being a kid.”
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. In addition to Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, sponsors include BB&T, Cherry Bekaert, Chris Evert Children's Hospital, Dex Imaging, Florida Community Bank, Gray Robinson, Greenburg Traurig, JM Family Enterprises, Joe DiMaggio Hospital, Marsh McLennan, Tripp Scott, and Stiles.
