FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The 2015 Broward College Speaker Series presented by Hoffman’s Chocolates continued on Wednesday, April 15th, with a fascinating account of some of the most beloved presidents in our nation’s history by Doris Kearns Goodwin, during her presentation entitled, “Leadership Lesson of History. Kearns Goodwin excerpted from her award-winning biographies of Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson and her new book on Teddy Roosevelt and William Taft. Throughout her presentation, Kearns Goodwin covered nine qualities of successful presidents, her personal experiences with some of the nation’s finest leaders and the roots of her passion for history.
“I shall always be grateful for this love of history,” Kearns Goodwin exclaims. “We can help those of the past live on as long as we pledge to tell and retell the stories of their lives.”
Following the presentation, Kearns Goodwin answered questions from the audience. When asked about influential moments in her life, she enthusiastically recounted her time as a White House Fellow and the lessons she had learned while working side-by-side President Lyndon B. Johnson. She shed a light on the importance of educating our children and igniting a passion for history in the hearts of others.
Before ending her presentation, Kearns Goodwin announced that the rights to her latest book, “The Bully Pulpit,” have been granted to movie producer Steven Spielberg. Additionally, fans should be expecting a new book on leadership and our nation’s presidents in the spring of 2017.
Doris Kearns Goodwin was the fourth of five distinguished speakers to share their life-changing experiences, insights, points of view and behind-the-scenes stories on some of the most current topics of the day as part of the 2015 Broward College Speaker Series.
