The Fort Lauderdale Police Department invites the public and the media to join us in congratulating the following officers on their recent promotion.
The promotional ceremony will be held at Provident Park, located at 1412 Northwest 6th Street in the City of Fort Lauderdale, on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 1:30 P.M.
In addition to the above, Assistant Chief Anthony Williams, Major Michael Gregory and Captains Dana Swisher and Jon Appel will be introduced at the Commission Meeting held Tuesday, March 19th at 6:30 P.M. at City Hall.
Assistant Chief: Anthony C. Williams
Anthony C. Williams has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since January of 1993. Anthony has served the department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Shift Captain, Executive Officer and a District Commander. Anthony has also served the department in the Criminal Investigations Division, the Community Policing Unit and the Staff Inspections Office as the Department's Accreditation Manager. Anthony is a veteran of the US Army and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Lynn University and a Master of Science Degree in Emergency Planning Administration. He has received 36 Public Commendations and 14 Departmental Commendations. Anthony is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, Class 250.
Major: Michael Gregory
Michael Gregory has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since February of 1987. Michael has served the department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Supervisor, and Shift Captain. He also served the department as a Detective in the Special Investigations Unit, the Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division, a Captain in the Support Services Bureau, and the Captain of the Internal Affairs Division. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University and is currently enrolled in the Executive Masters in Public Administration Program at the Florida International University. He has received 23 Public Commendations and 13 Departmental Commendations. He is also a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute for Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, Class 248.
Captain: Dana Swisher
Dana Swisher has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since December of 1995. Dana has served the department in the Special Operations Division, Internal Affairs Division, Patrol Division, Special Investigations Division, Tactical Impact Unit, Motor Unit, and as the Commander of the S.W.A.T. team. Dana holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Conflict Management from Nova Southeastern University. Dana has received 13 Public Commendations and 6 Departmental Commendations. Dana's most recent assignment was as a Lieutenant assigned to the Special Operations Division. Prior to joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Dana worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for two years.
Captain: Jonathan Appel
Jonathan Appel has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since July of 1993. Jonathan has served the department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Officer and a Patrol Supervisor. He also served the department in the Community Policing Unit, Special Problems Unit, Marine Unit, as a School Resource Officer, and a Narcotics K-9 Handler. Jon's most recent assignment was as a Lieutenant assigned to the Special Investigations Division and the Dive Team Supervisor. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science. He has received 7 Departmental Commendations and 51 Public Commendations. Prior to becoming a police officer, Jon served the Broward Sheriff's Office as a Detention Deputy for two years.
Sergeant: Ronald Magno
Ronald Magno has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since May of 1994. Ron has served the Department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Officer and a Narcotics K-9 Handler. Ron is also a member of the department's Honor Guard since 2002. Ron holds a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York, Brockport. Ron's most recent assignment was in the Operations Bureau as an Apprehension K-9 Handler. He has received 11 Public and 8 Departmental commendations.
Sergeant: Adam Solomon
Adam Solomon has served the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since January of 2006. Adam has served the Department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Officer and in the Criminal Investigations Division as a Property Crimes Detective. Adam has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the College of New Jersey. He is also currently enrolled at University of Central Florida where he is completing a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He has received 2 Public Commendations and 3 Departmental Commendations, one of which was a Duty Citation. Prior to joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Adam served as a Federal Police Officer with the United States Capitol Police in Washington D.C. as a Special Agent assigned to the Dignitary Protection Division.
