The Walter C. Young Middle School Knights of SCRABBLE Team placed 6th in the nation at the 2014 National School SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT hosted by Hasbro, Inc., April 26-27, 2014, in Providence, Rhode Island. The team joined young SCRABBLE enthusiasts, in fourth through eighth grades, to compete for top prizes.
Knights of SCRABBLE Team members Sabrina Lin and Sofia Godoy placed 6th in the nation to receive plaques and a $500 cash award. Other members of the team placing in the top 50 include Rachel Levi and Dylan Kahn in 36th place, John Massa and Christian Sheerertoo in 39th place, and Jennifer Barroso and Johnny Brinson in 42nd place. (Jennifer and Johnny also won the award for the second highest BINGO using all seven letters on one play with the word F-R-E-A-K-E-D scoring 99 points).
The National School SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT brings together contestants from across the United States and Canada, and features the youngest and best SCRABBLE students. The annual tournament draws over 75 teams representing schools and youth organizations participate in the multi-day event.
