FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Covalence, a Birmingham, Ala.-based company that provides full-time coding bootcamps and career altering training courses, announced its expansion into Fort Lauderdale as Covalence Academy in partnership with General Provision, an independent business center and coworking space.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be one million programming jobs left unfilled in the country by 2020. “South Florida is gaining momentum as a tech center and the need for technical talent continues to grow,” said Covalence President and Fort Lauderdale native, Matt Morgan, about his company’s expansion into South Florida. “Our graduates walk away with the skills needed to either change their careers and become junior level developers or to advance their current careers. Tech is where the jobs are now and in the future.”
Covalence will offer both coding bootcamps and career altering training courses in FATVillage Arts District in Fort Lauderdale. Covalence’s courses are designed for people who are passionate about technology and want to jump start or change their career within the industry. Designed for more advanced applicants with previous development experience, a one-week course focused on Facebook’s React Native will take place on Dec. 11. For those with or without prior experience, the first fully immersive 10-week Full Stack Developer Bootcamp starts on Jan. 8. Applications are now being accepted.
Additionally, Covalence is looking to work with larger corporations to encourage corporate repurposing of their employees and resources whose jobs are being threatened by the advancement of technology. Employees are trained and then return to their current employers to fill essential, higher-paying technical positions.
“Our space was designed with a company like Covalence in mind,” said Tim Hasse, founder of General Provision. “It’s designed to promote creativity and innovation. We’re an office. We’re a home. We’re a club.”
Covalence students not only learn several coding languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and SQL, but they also learn the fundamentals that allow them to pick-up other languages after the course. Many students get jobs using languages like C#, Java and more. Covalence has strengthened its focus on teaching aspiring developers how to code by offering accelerated, demand-driven Full Stack and Front End coding programs in several states. By establishing a multi-state presence, Covalence has been able to reach untapped potential across the country and promote economic and job growth in various locations. Covalence graduates have been hired at notable companies such as UPS, Regions, Bank of America, Shipt online grocery service and many more.
