FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The City of Fort Lauderdale will host the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix May 10-13 at the Aquatic Complex, located at 501 Seabreeze Boulevard on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
The event will feature many of the world’s best divers for four days of top-level international competition. The AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix is the sole U.S. stop on the six-country FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) International Grand Prix tour. This year’s event features more than 80 divers from 12 countries, including six Olympic medalists and 24 Olympians. Participating countries include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Germany, Macau China, Malaysia, Mexico, USA and Venezuela.
Six members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team are among the athletes competing for Team USA including Kelci Bryant, Chris Colwill, Troy Dumais, Thomas Finchum, Haley Ishimatsu and Christina Loukas. Other Olympians scheduled to compete are: Matthew Mitcham, Sharleen Stratton, Loudy Wiggins and Melissa Wu from Australia; Juliana Veloso and Hugo Parisi from Brazil; Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito, Roseline Filion, Emilie Heymans, Riley McCormick and Reuben Ross from Canada; Huo Liang and Zhou Luxin from China; Leong Mun Yee, Bryan Nickson Lomas and Pandelela Rinong from Malaysia; and German Sanchez from Mexico.
Now in its 43rd year, the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix competition is one of the most prestigious diving events in the world and regularly draws top international athletes, Olympic and World champions. Previous competitions have featured Olympic champions Greg Louganis, Laura Wilkinson, Mark Lenzi, Matthew Mitcham, Guo Jingjing and Dmitry Sautin along with a host of top international competitors representing more than 20 countries.
