Surfing is classified as a "risk sport" several reasons being - rip tides, currants, wave force and collision with equipment, rocks, sandbars and of course other surfers.
It's essential that surfers both novice and elite have a significant base of paddling strength, balance and over all physical fitness. The better shape you're in the longer the session can be.
Surfers using a progressive strength and conditioning program will have an easier time in the water. A properly designed fitness routine will strengthen muscles, tendons and ligaments helping to reduce injury to the shoulders (rotator cuff), back and knees. So train smarter not harder.
