Florida Keys government officials have announced that the island chain would open to visitors Sunday, Oct. 1. The Florida Department of Transportation has inspected all bridges on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway and deemed them safe. Key West International Airport has reopened and commercial service and general aviation has resumed. Florida Keys Marathon International Airport is processing general aviation and charter flights as normal, and the Port of Key West opened last week to cruise ships.
Iconic Keys events such as Key Largo’s Humphrey Bogart Film Festival, set for Oct. 18-22, Marathon’s Stone Crab Eating Contest scheduled Oct. 21 and Key West’s Fantasy Fest, slated for Oct. 20-29, are to take place as planned, in addition to nearly all scheduled Fall events.
