FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- "Talkin' Money", a new financial literacy educational video series targeting millinneals (www.talkinmoney.org), is please to announce production is now underway for it's first three episodes. The producers of this video series have also created a crowdfunding project on RocketHub
When polled, the vast majority of adults will tell you that they were never taught the thing they needed to know about money when they were in high school, and, they wished they had the knowledge to be financially literate at a young age.
The pilot episode of Talkin' Money, which was shot earlier this year, created a buzz among educators as to the need for programming content of this type. The current plans call for approximately fifteen videos of 14:15 in length to be distributed through traditional educational video distributors for use in high schools throughout the United States and Canada. This distribution market represents a potential audience of 5-6 million high school students yearly.
"The goal of these videos is to create a legacy project that will be used in schools for then next ten to fifteen years, " commented Producer/Writer Bob Small. "When you look at the numbers, over its lifetime in all the schools nationwide, Talkin' Money could reach well over fifty million teens. It's a tremendous responsibility, but if this series gets families talking constructively about financial matters, then we'll consider Talkin' Money a success."
The production features teens in real-life situations along with fun, animated money characters and original music. Timely topics will fully cover financial literacy curriculum based on common-core standards as well as financial literacy education advocates. What high school or college student doesn't need and want guidance in financial responsibility and decision making in today's very complicated world? Topics such as choices in careers and income ; money management and planning for the future; credit and debt; wants versus needs; risk management and insurance; savings, investing;and buying that first car.
Both Producers Bob Small and Steve Procko have been approached by parents after their viewing of the pilot of Talkin' Money and expressed their own desire to learn more about financial literacy and to help their children not make the same financial mistakes.
"The danger of not teaching financial literacy is having a generation of kids out there that don't know how to deal with money." said Guy Barmoha; K-5 Mathematics Curriculum Specialist for Broward County Public Schools, Florida.
"Teaching kids how money works is really going to empower them to win the game of life", said Laurie Acosta; Academy of Finance Teacher at Taravella High School in south Florida.
