FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Literary Feast 2014, the Broward Public Library Foundation's annual celebration of books and authors, will feature more than 20 outstanding writers from March 15-17.
Literary Feast authors represent a variety of genres, including mystery, history, memoir, fiction, biography, social science and self-help. Once such author is Dani Shapiro, whose latest memoir – Still Writing: The Perils and Pleasures of a Creative Life – has drawn much attention and even landed her on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday program. John Grogan – who penned the much loved memoir Marley & Me – is part of the Feast line-up, as is international best-selling novelist Robin Cook, whose latest work is CELL, a medical thriller. Singer/author/playwright Rupert Holmes, who recently adapted the John Grisham novel, A Time to Kill, for the Broadway stage will be part of the weekend, as will Arthur Agatston MD – who wrote the popular The South Beach Diet and recently published a sequel entitled Gluten Solution, and Caryn Stern, the CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. A complete list of authors secured to-date is attached for reference.
"This year's Literary Feast brings a remarkable group of authors to Broward County," said Joseph Goldstein, event Co-Chair and Vice Chair of the Broward Public Library Foundation Board of Directors. "It's a great opportunity for South Florida book-lovers, and a wonderful way for the Library Foundation to raise much-needed funds to support Broward County Library's literacy programs for children and adults."
Literary Feast 2014 begins with A Night of Literary Feasts on Saturday, March 15th beginning at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Harbor Beach Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. This signature fundraising event consists of a gala cocktail party with all the Feast authors signing books followed by a series of intimate dinners with authors hosted in private homes and upscale restaurants. Tickets for this event are $175.
LitLIVE! takes place on Sunday, March 16th from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Nova Southeastern University's Alvin Sherman Library on the Davie campus. This free public event features all of the authors participating in a series of lectures, discussions and book signings.
On Monday, March 17th, Feast authors travel to area high schools as part of Novel Day for Students to engage thousands of Broward County students in discussions of their works and the craft of writing. They also announce the winners of the annual Novel Day for Students Short Story Contest, with more than 500 students participating each year.
