FORT LAUDERDALE – South Florida finalists compete for a once in a lifetime opportunity to dance in an upcoming Bollywood film and have a professional Bollywood photo shoot as Naved Jaffrey, producers of the popular dance reality show Boogie Woogie and Pria Haider of Pria Haider Productions, New York present Naach Meri Jaan in association with Florida's Pavan Events and Rachna Buxani of Bollywood Dance Blast on Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at Parker Playhouse.

The first of its kind and the biggest Bollywood dance competition in North America, Naach Meri Jaan aims to find the next dancing superstars from thousands of contestants in Florida and 11 other cities. The Florida competitors who have been chosen as finalists will now compete at Parker Playhouse where they will be judged by pioneers of Bollywood dance including Naved Jaffrey, Rujuta Vaidya of the Jai Ho Oscar performance fame and the noted TV actor Vatsal Sheth. The winners of the Florida Finals will then move on to the Grand Finale where they will compete with the best Bollywood dancers from all the 12 cities. Naach Meri Jaan is a South Asian cultural extravaganza and the program will be televised on Star Plus India.

Finalists at Parker Playhouse will compete in solo, group and couple categories in the competition that is divided into ages five to 15 and ages 16 to adult. Brought to North America by Haider and Jaffrey, the dance competition was created to promote South Asian dance forms including Bhangra, Bollywood and Fusion, and to showcase the remarkable talent of children and adults in this arena. This event is an opportunity for the best Bollywood dancers to showcase their talent.

According to the organizers, Bollywood films are usually musicals and the music is just as important as the script. Bollywood dancing is part classical Indian dance (which forms the base), folk dance forms such as Bhangra and some elements of Latin and Arabic dance. This entertaining type of dance also has a profound meaning. Dancers express what the music means, through the graceful movements of their body.

The show is presented as part of the Broward Center’s Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. The program provides technical assistance and marketing support to local community groups enabling them to develop and build their audiences. Arts Access has collaborated with nearly 50 performing arts companies, nonprofit organizations and cultural and community groups to present all genres of the performing arts including music, dance, theater, poetry and comedy.
